Learning to swim.....Again!

It has been over 2 decades (20 years plus) since I was an active swimmer...that's when my children were between 5 and 8 years of age. To me it was essential that my children learn how to swim AND more important.....HOW TO TREAT WATER (stay afloat in other words)

Now....here I am at the age of 64 learning the basics of swimming again at the local community center in Henderson, Nevada.(there's more than one)

Two things I learn right off the bat!
One....the techniques involved I didn't know, But simple to learn.
Two....after 40 minutes of practice, I was exhausted.(whew)

here is a sample of what I did this morning:
A you-tube instruction on HOW TO TREAD WATER(learning to stay afloat)
length: 3 minutes 48 seconds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFmOtf_Ew1w

HOW TO STAY AFLOAT: :yes:less that two minutes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS0PZSrI-GI

HOW TO PREVENT DROWNING
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=regiBUDs-s0
less than two minutes

_Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didnít learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didnít learn a little, at least we didnít get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didnít die; so, let us all be thankful...Buddha

Learning to Swim, the basics of buoyancy

Definition of Buoyancy:
1. the ability or tendency to float in water or air or some other fluid.
OR the power of a liquid to keep something afloat.

2. an optimistic and cheerful disposition.
"the happiness and buoyancy of his nature"

Believe me....once you master floating in water, you'll become optimistic and confident.
On my first week of swimming lessons, I concentrated on floating(buoyancy)
I found the you-tube video that mirrors some of my lessons:

learn to:
Proper Breathing Control....(important)
Quick Breathing
The Front Float
The Back Float
The Front Glide
The Back Glide

_relax, take your time
_never do it alone, have a buddy, preferably someone who knows
_and most of all, practice, practice, and more practice!

now its practice time

Just got out of the pool an hour ago....luckily the indoor pool is only 2 miles and some change away.

Who's belongs to these pancakes? I asked as I was looking into the fridge. A 13 yo girl said it was hers...but she hasn't touch them.
3 large pancakes that are smuthered in real strawberries and syrup and package in a covered plastic plate. (from this morning)
With her permission, placed the pancakes on a regular plate, placed them in the micro-wave, and soon devoured them.

SWIMMING....I found out...makes me very hungry...and my muscles a little worn/tired.
I still working on my breathing, swimming laps, 25 meters across and back is not easy.
My back stroke is good, my breast stroke needs some work, and the front crawl is good except for the breathing part. (needs work)
The instructor wanted us newbies to try the butterfly stroke
Every student said, NOT YET!....we're still trying to get a handle on the first 3. (whew)
So he cut us some slack, until next week.:wow:

Until then, I'll be hitting the pool once a day for 40 minutes at a time working out. My endurance is slowly building...I now can cover 20 meters without stopping...not quite the full 25. But hey, I know how to float now.
