With the lowest 'favorability' rating in U.S. history, this is why Americans voted for Trump

The first (openly) black president was elected because he said he would change how our government works. Donald Trump was elected for the exact same reason.

Americans want change. Had Bernie Sanders run, rather than Hillary, he prolly would be our next POTUS. Like Obama, and now Trump, he would have run on "Change." Because he is positive, optimistic, and (even) a Socialist, his favorability rating on the verge of taking office, would prolly be over the top - in the 90% range (like Obama's) rather than something like 40% for Trump. But because he didn't win the Democratic nomination, and Hillary, who promised to run the country in the same ole establishment-friendly way did, i.e., NO change... Trump who ran on Change, albeit Negative, won.

[ňąretr…ôňĆ…°rńĀd]

directed or moving backward, go back in position or time:
"a retrograde flow"
synonyms: backward ∑ backwards ∑ reverse ∑ rearward

For some, it was Retrograde Change that they wanted, i.e., bring back the 1950's where it was the norm:

that blacks were uncomplaining, subservient, and kept forcibly in our "place" (pre-Civil Rights Movement),
that gays scurried in the dark, fearful and ashamed, and didn't fight back (pre-Stonewall),
that women were virgins or whores, worked in menial jobs with a low glass ceiling, and the birth certificates of children born out of wedlock were rubber-stamped "Bastard" (pre-Women's Movement),
that immigrant, uneducated white men who worked in labor-intensive jobs like construction, or the Steel Mills, earned salaries that white collar workers with h.s. diplomas and oft-times, college degrees, could only dream of.

For forward thinkers who are not threatened by the rise of technology, it was greed at the top "bailed out" by the American taxpayer (Wall Street),
the amassing of wealth into fewer and fewer hands (the 1%),
corruption, both public and private (scandals),
disdain for the "little" people by those as the top, both public and private (the Leona Helmslys of the corporate world),
white collar crime in the billions of dollars with no punishment or, as with the bailouts, reward for cynically sticking it to the "little" people with the hardship of home foreclosure and homelessness (Goldman Sachs; banks "too big" to fail)
as well as Power, along with the wealth of the nation, being concentrated into the hands of the oligarch.

Americans want it to :stop: . MBs across the internet are filled with threads and posts wailing, bemoaning, calling to arms for the oligarchs to be reigned in, to be forced to share the wealth and the power of the nation and, as exemplified by the Conspiracy Theorists, to be overthrown. The only way to stop the "direction the country is traveling in" is to come together in numbers and CHANGE that direction.

And that is what Americans did. And that is why Donald Trump can snatch every mother's puzzy and STILL be supported. Because he promises.... and through his insane tweeting and outrageous words, fulfills.... Change.

At this point, the ONLY way Trump can be taken down is that white people lose jobs and white unemployment rises, or he brings about a national Depression. By thumbing his nose at the establishment, Trump is his supporters' hero, both deplorables and delusional, alike. JMO

On the day of his inauguration, his ratings were:

70% UN-favorable
30% favorable

Trumps executive orders

Well, Prez. Trump have torpedoed the Trans-Pacific-Agreement.
Seeking renegotiate with all 12 member nations separately.
It about trade between nations.

Which brings me to this simple point.

I went to the BIG BOX stores of home repair/maintenance....Gardening tools was what I was after.
The spade shovel, different types of rakes, pickaxe, and some smaller gardening tools.

This is what I found:

for example,
The tool called the "round point shovel" is a common tool for moving around dirt.
The highest quality shovel was made in MEXICO, cost in the mid $30's.
The next highest quality shovel (which I bought) is in the mid-$20's is made in VIETNAM.
Least quality of all 3 shovels was made in CHINA....$9.99

NOT a single shovel was made in the USA....These are USA companies that manufacture these goods in 3 other countries. With lower labor costs and tax advantages....I like to see how Prez. Trump and his administration is going to pull this off.

I saw a program on PBS called (I believe) "Christmas without China." This Chinese guy's father had told him that Americans complain about China all the time, and to "buy American," but it was IMPOSSIBLE "not" to buy from China. Upshot is that the Chinese-American guy found that it is...yep! Impossible to have Xmas in America without purchasing something "Made in China." From plastic Xmas Trees to ornaments to clothes to toys, the U.S. is saturated with products "made in China."

You speak of lower labor costs. It is a truism that EVERY country flocks to purchase manufactured goods from nations with the LOWEST labor costs, ergo, the cheapest prices. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to understand that this is how the U.S. became an economic world power. We had the lowest labor costs in the WORLD.... when black people worked for free. All the slavers had to pay out for was material... oh right. Cotton was King during the Industrial Revolution. Cotton that the free laborers planted, hoed and picked....

At this point in time, China (especially!) and the other 2 countries you mentioned pay the least in wages, almost but not quite, SLAVE labor. So, if Trump decides to cut off tax incentives to AMERICAN corporations overseas (like Wal Mart) and charge HUGE import taxes for foreign labor-made goods, well, not to be crude, but his azz is toast! That cheap shovel you bought for $9.99 made in China, if made in America (American labor costs), will jump to $49.99. The pricey one made in Mexico made in America will jump to around $79.99. And trust, I'm not blowing smoke, as noted in another thead:

Quote:

$7.35/hr minimum U.S. wage based on a 40 hour week vs. China's 45 CENTS per hour salaries based on an 80 to 100 hours/week? What about time and half for overtime U.S., and NO overtime pay in China?

http://cocoalounge.org/viewthread.php?tid=63948&page=1#pid691820

Oh, and those 5 pairs of jeans most people have in their closet? The cheap ones made in Vietnam at $19.99 will most likely jump to $59.99, so when one pair wears out, prolly won't be replacing it anytime soon. Much less buy that cute lady tee made in China in 5 different colors... 2 tees in 5 different colors for a total of 10 tees, which should jump from $15/tee shirt ($150) to $55/tee shirt ($550), ok?

Not just Trump's azz, but our collective butts will be not so much toast as BARE! And once that happens, inability to sell goods in a Capitalist society results in lay-offs, factory closings, a lack of consumer confidence (SAVE rather than spend money), and quicker than you can say it: not nation, but WORLD-wide Depression.
