Hair Grease

The story:

My sister went to the salon and she told me her hair dresser said that her hair grows so slow because she is always putting grease in it- which clogs her folicles and makes it dirty which keeps it from growing. So now she is into micros and other weaved styles.

Personally, I use a light grease at least 2-3 times a week on my scalp, because I hate the dry feeling which causes itching and dandruff.

So the question is: grease - or - no gease? I can't imagine hair grease preventing hair growth.

Well I never use grease. My hair is naturally oily. My daughter's hair is kind of dry...but I still use Hair lotion/moisturizers...no grease. To me all it does is coat the hair. I have heard that it doesn't aid in hair growth, though.

Does the moisturizers seem to make your daughters hair grow? How often do you moisturize?

Kemi Oil...
Its light, doesnt clog your pores and a little goes a long way.

No grease :noway: her stylist sounds like she did more than just get her license.. she actually listened to her instructors... ... What is needed if the scalp is dry is a light moisturizer... Grease does nothing BUT clog pores.. resulting in backup of natural oils... which result in hair loss.. not growth. Your head makes it's own oils... and if it needs some help then you do so by using a moisturizer.. not grease. Most folks who think dandruff is a bad thing need to understand that is the scalp going through it's normal shedding phase.. which actually mean that it's doing it proper job... which is normal.. Now if you've got big crusty flakes it's something to be concerned about.. otherwise.. it's normal. Good luck with that.

If I were you... I'd hate me too.

It makes her hair soft and manageable. I wouldn't go so much as to say it helps her hair grow....she has always had nice length hair so I never really worried about growth as much as I did dryness. I use the moisterizer in her hair everytime I do her hair...so everyday.

But I don't think you should put a moisturizer in your hair everyday unless it is extremely light or else your hair will get heavy. I use olive oil in my hair once a week just because I have color in my hair now and I don't want it to break off...but I only use a small amount once a week. Maybe you can try that, or a light moisturizer like Nik said.

NO GREASE it clogs up the hair follicles. My suggestion to your sister would be to use cream moisturizers and/or natural hair oils.

I also suggest using a clarifying shampoo at least 1 or 2 times per month to get rid of the build up on the hair and scalp. Have her massage a little JoJoba oil into her scalp before using the clarifying shampoo as well.

I haven't used grease since I was a child, it makes my hair feel heavy and I like the lighter feeling. So I use Olive oil sheen. My roots don't feel dry and I don't get that gunky feeling either.

I only use almond oil, castor oil, or carrot oil. And not a lot, just pour in my hand and run it lightly inbetween my locs and along the hair shaft, especially in the winter...summer, not so much.

I like the oils from Carol's Daughter. I don't use any product that has mineral oil in it.

i use cantu moistrizing lotion and olive oil. I also use a really good leav in conditioner by cantu after wash/co wash.
now alot of people are against mineral oil and petrolatum and with very good reason but in all honesty my hair is really really coarse like. . .yeah coarse and most produts with mineral oil have actually had really good effects on my hair. but that is just me. i wouldn't try it at home. lol

My goddaughter turned me on to olive oil when she did my hair for me. I always keep it around for cooking, but didn't realize how soft it made my hair feel until she clued me in.
