Bill Cosby at it again!

I hope this was not already posted.....

Bill Cosby talks about Tupac

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/16754428.htm

More tough-love talk from Cosby

He joins Save Our Children forum

By DAMON C. WILLIAMS

Comedian, author and native Philadelphian Bill Cosby posed a serious question yesterday to the audience at a Save Our Children forum in the auditorium of Community College of Philadelphia.

He first asked audience members who had lost loved ones to violence to stand up. More than 75 percent of those in the room stood.

"This is insane," he said. He then asked his question, "Where are we going as parents, as people?"

Speaking in simple, blunt terms, Cosby urged parents not to address their children in negative ways.

"Your child's name is not n-----, your 2-year-old child's name is not mother------," Cosby said, to rousing cheers and just a few gasps from parents in attendance.

Cosby's main issues in his keynote address as one of a number of speakers at the Community College-sponsored "Save Our Children - Exhoodus Tour" were parenting, education and drug-selling, all of which he touched on with just a hint of comedy.

Typical of Cosby's style of stinging and controversial commentary, he also faulted the love shown to the late rapper Tupac Shakur. He said it was crazy for Shakur, who was fatally shot in Las Vegas in 1996, and his mother to enjoy the proceeds from Shakur's drug sales.

"In the book, 'To Momma With Love,' or something like that, he is so happy that he's able to take money from selling cocaine and give the money to his mother," Cosby said.

"How wonderful. Isn't that wonderful. You've got to be kidding. How many lives have you ruined selling packets? How many mothers are not going to go to work because they want to snort? How many dead mothers because of crack, how many babies we got to make turn around because they are crack babies?"

Cosby said the house Shakur bought his mother should be adorned with the pictures of users who died due to drug use.

"Hang up the pictures of the people's lives you ruined," Cosby declared.

Cosby also briefly addressed the criticisms he has endured recently, saying that he doesn't pick on the poor but rather, he tells it like it is.

"[People say] 'Bill Cosby is picking on the poor.' I couldn't care less," Cosby said, with a little edge in his voice. "I'm telling you whyyour child is sad inside. I would keep my mouth shut if [parents] were doing things."

Cosby also said that he had the right to say what he says because he came from where the people he was addressing came from.

"Up to the age 26, [I lived at] 6159 N. 41st Street," Cosby said. "So don't play games with me. I've seen all of you, whether you are rich, poor or middle-income. And I know when you talk too much, and I know why you talk too much. And that's why I can say what I want to say."

Cosby was joined by Malik Aziz and Bilal Qayyum of Black Men United for a Better Philadelphia; the Rev. Derrick Johnson, of Joshua Harvest Church in Wilmington, Del; Umar Salahuddin, Atlantic City's director of health and human services; Michelle A. Simmons of Why Not Prosper, Inc.; Antoinette Jackson-Aziz, executive vice president of the Ex-Offenders Association of Pennsylvania; and brothers Lance and Todd Feurtado, motivational speakers from Queens, N.Y.

^^^^I am sorry, but sometimes I think Bill Cosby is a bit overboard. :td: I mean some of the thing he says have some truth in it, but to me dogging and trying to trash another man's legacy is not cool. Tupac never even sold drugs...he doesn't know what he is talking about. He never says anything in a productive manner. But that is just my opinion.....

Let's discuss.....

My sentiments exactly! I mean he never talks about that BS but love to point out all of the "faults" of the Black community in efforts to "help" the community!

How about taking some of that bread he got and investing it in some of these neighborhoods. I am sure that he has given some money to a college or two---but to continuosly keep dogging out your own people with no solution is crazy to me!!!

How about saying--"X is jacked up so me and a few collegues are prepared to do XYZ" He never has any positive efforts, IMO. He is really getting on my nerves!!!!!

Plus the cash that he gives to the colleges are already those that have prestige and the bucks....Why not pick out some small community college and give them the money?....Plus the fool has never said anything about the majority of black parents who are doing the right thing!......I mean,if you are gonna paint a picture you paint a complete one......ass**le king!!

I agree with you there. His first outburst made me think he was on to something and that maybe he planned on making a difference. Nothing so far but more outburst...now I think he may have a form of tourettes...hush Bill geezzz we get it, you don't like Black people.

I may not like the way he says it, but Cosby tells the truth. And as negative as many black folk are, always critizing every black person who's trying to do something positive with their lives, he's speaking their language when he says it. And if no one ever points out your faults, how do you even know you have them? Or if you are aware, why would you think they're serious, life-destroying if everyone acts like they don't exist?

Yes, he cheated on his wife *gasp* UNLIKE other black OR white men, huh? And as for that "love child" - wasn't his. The girl is the daughter of her hustling momma's pimp. I've seen her picture and I've seen her father's picture. She looks like HE spit her out! Most telling feature - they BOTH have a long hook nose, not a common feature of blacks and certainly FAR from Cosby's big round nose!

Cosby gave a check for $20 million to Spellman college, so when he says he's concerned about educating black people, the man puts his money where his mouth is. Plus by giving to Spellman, he's helping to keep a traditional HBCU alive. Other than HBCUs, what else can black people point with pride to and say it's been in existance for a century, more or less?

Cosby may talk about the ills of black society, but he does something about it, as well.

Amerikkka is a two-edged sword still partially embedded in
in the neck of the Black Community (and drawin' blood,)

because the black community (so-called 'leaders,) are still scared to tell the white community that it (white racist societal privelege,)

is the back edge of the sword, even saturated in a societal heirarchy of psychosis, is counter LIFE and therefore unacceptable.

Matter of fact and proven hissstorically, any Black Leader who DOES stand up to educate the world of this basic truth, is immediately murdered...WITH ultimately--the 'blessing' of the
so-called 'accepted' blacks in amerikkkan society.

(Blacks like Bill Cosby, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson.)

I'VE never been impressed when the so-called rich in this society gives monetary 'gifts' to the so-called down-trodden
for any reason (especially by 'blacks' in the name of black up-liftment,)

because these 'gifts' are immedately written off to taxes and it's only the 'poor' who wind up footin' the bill for themselves anyway......(by blood sweat and a whole lotta tears.)

Until WE get the krakka edge of the sword out of OUR necks, WE can't proceed to care for OURSELVES properly and master control of OUR edge of the sword when no edge of a sword should have been at OUR necks at all.

(Unless WE for get, it is krakkas that are suicidal by nature, not US.)

Bill Cosby is a victim of the 'hype,' he believes his own auto-biography like every other krakka created celebrity.

The problem is, it is only by OURSTORY that he will be properly judged.

I do not find what he said out of step with reality, someone needs to keep ass of people who want to give birth to hoodlums and let them loose on streets.

In England, you have heard 13 years olds killing each other with guns. In England, the police did not carry guns until black people start turning guns on each other.

Of couse in some cases it is already too late.

All I can advise Cosby to do is recognise that this is a spiritual battle rather than an intellectual one.

Now Cosby might have his faults but he is on the money because the status quo is not an option.

Peole should stop shooting the messanger and evaluate what he has to say.

I agree with this.

I have been a huge critic of Bill Cosby and I still am. I think that his first rants were in some ways right on but put most of the blame of the negative parts of the black community on the poor when it is all of our responsiblity (including the white patriarchal society that we reside).

But I think that he (with all of his problems with sexism in all of it's versions) at the very least brings up issues that we don't talk about enough.

Is it alright to excuse the selling of drugs in our communities to support our families? And if so, should we be silent when we see the unintended outcomes? It's not enough to talk about how the drugs got here. We know how. The more important issue for me is what now? What can we do within our schools, communities families in order to alleviate the option of selling drugs?

How does the commercialism of this nation contribute to the want that drives some drug dealers (because everybody ain't doin it for their mama)? How can that be combated effectively?

So, yes Cosby is a walking contradiction when it comes to family morals and values but he does bring to the table a starting point for the real work to continue (or start depending on your perspective). I think that we have to do more than throw money at the situation. The real work is in the connections that we build as well as the paths that we create for our children.

To educate a man is to educate a person. To educate a woman is to educate a nation - Malcolm X

If you are in a country that is progressive, the woman is progressive. If you're in a country that reflects the consciousness toward the importance of education, because the woman is aware of the importance of education. But in every backward country you find the women are backward, and in every country where education is not stressed its because the women don't have education. - Malcolm X

IMO, the money he gives to Spelman has nothing to do with the issues he is speaking out against. Give some money towards all these broken homes and broken communities you are talking about.

The kids in college are ALREADY on the right track--how about helping some of the misguided youth. Does he do this? Is he putting his millions where his mouth is in that regard? NO, NO, and NO. The kkkracka loves negroes like this. They come out in drones to hear this kind of talk. Cosby gets a standing ovation from these kkkrackas after his rants. I don't appreciate the format in which he is speaking. He never speaks on the positives of his own people. And I feel like the behaviors that he does comment on are the EXTREME. America loves believing that all Blacks are like this.

Cosby get two thumbs way down. :td: :td:

Sorry but he is WACK to the 10th power for this. There are ways to say things. There are ways to help people without demeaning them first. We have been SPEAKING about these types of issues for years----is SPEAKING about it really helping the less fortunate?

Sorry, but as they say talk is cheap......

^^ you took the words right out of my mouth...Yes he gives but what has he done for the people his speeches are addressing?

Not every child will attend a 4 year college or university...hell I've even given $$$ to graduating seniors attending a trade school. What made me want to do this it that I found-out some of our children were giving up after graduation because they were not aware of what trade schools had to offer.

Tongue thrashings will only go so far...we need soldiers out there willing to fight the fight...and believe you me, it is a battle.
