The Verizon Wireless Cell Phone Commercial
What do you think?
Black Family .. Dad and two children .. teens .. Boy and Girl
Dad purchased his kids verizon cell phone for Christmas gift apparently... and he said to them i got u all the network ..the network ...and they
looking like ok .. and he said but what did dad get .. dad get hose...
That comment didn't sit very well with me at all .... I over heard it on TV and when I looked back I didn't see any socks in the Black man's hand..
he looked at his children and begin walking away ..
This is very disrespectful ... what is this commercial implying .. even if this commercial showed some socks in the black man's hand .. I still
believe it was not appropriate...
I guess that is why those who have childern need to monitor the shows they watch and what is viewed on television..
I will be sending a letter to verizon ....

I think it said that dad got "hosed". Meaning that he didn't get anything as good as what he gave his kids. They got phones and he got aftershave.
He got "hosed."
In the urband dictionary, it describes being hosed as
1.(slang/transitive verb) To deceive or trick somebody.

Having worked in that field, I can tell you it wasn't a mistake. Each and every word and image of any major commercial is planned and calculated for
maximum effect. So it was intended to sound like Daddy got some hoes.
He who knows and knows that he knows, he is a teacher, follow him.
He who knows not and knows he knows not, he is a student, teach him.
But he who knows not, and knows not that he knows not…

^^I have not seen the commercial but I agree with Socrates that the media calculate for the maximum effect.

That is what I figure Socrates... and it is disgusting..
So the commercial could be saying in essence..that Black Men got Hoes..
Although I know it's nothing new for the media to put the black man or race down but this is just to much .. what about the children that watch tv...
when parents are not home .. umm single family house holds.. and they hear this .. what do they do .. take it to the streets and repeat...

I am quite sure if he got hoes, he would've been more excited about it, he got a bum gift, bottom line. Why read more into it?

I saw that..and I must admit the subliminal message did go over my head..because when he said he "got hose'...***gulp*** I thought he meant panty
hose..
Don't ask me why..but..I did..
I didn't connect it to any slang term for "getting hosed nor that he got some strippa-actual "Freak-chick sexin " hose-hose" for Christmas..nor
if he did get some scanks..why in the world would he tell his kids..assuming there's no mom in the picure..
Bottomline this commercial made no sense to me...

Because unfortunately that is what we do.
I understood it perfectly the first time I saw it. "Dad got hosed."
I find it disturbing that we [Blacks] automatically associate a Black man with the word HOES.

I must agree. I never thought about Hoes not once when I heard that commercial. I thought hosed and assumed that there was a new meaning attached to
it. I mean, I'm a little more trusting than I shoudl be, but I must say, as a coimmunity if using the word Hoes in a commercial is one of our
principle concerns then we really don't have any problems at all.
Not to detract from Ms. Loving's interpretation, if she was offended and she feels it was inappropriate, then that's her. I've asked around and it
seems everyone thought hosed like he was duped...

I thought the commercial was cute because the daddy played Senator Clay Davis on The Wire. But when I heard what he got for Christmas I had to think
about it for a moment. Then I brushed it off.

AMEN!
I understood the commercial to say HOSED myself.
Actually I'm more concerned with what some children hear in their own homes!

I was wondering about that very same commercial. Dang I thought it was just me.
Be respectful and so will I. Cross the line and so will I.

I don't feel it was the association anyone can be a hoe and no i'm not one that associate the Black Man with hoes..this comment and thread was in
relation to what I heard ... this wasn't made up ... this is what I heard the commercial say .. now maybe I mis-heard this commercial...but how many
others may and have heard the same thing I heard..and it's not making something out of whats not there .. i didn't make the commercial nor did i
select the choice of words that were used in this commercial and maybe that is the factor here .. they should have used a better choice of words..
