Oprah Racially Snubbed Again ?

Did Oprah Get Snubbed Again? And How is She doing with the Saudis?

*Locals in Montecito, Calif., where Oprah Winfrey owns a 42-acre ranch, tell the New York Post that race plays absolutely no part in the decision of two country clubs in the area to turn down the TV star’s application for membership.

The Post reported that the top two recreation spots in Montecito – Burnham Wood Country Club and the Knollwood Tennis Club – have rejected Oprah’s attempt to join. However, a rep for the TV host says: "It's not true. She never applied."

According to the paper, Winfrey was accepted into the Montecito Country Club, described by one source as “the third-tier club in town," where Michael Douglas is also a member.

Burnham and Knollwood reportedly rejected her application because she was too “pushy.”

"She offered to build a new tennis court at Knollwood. That's just not done," said one source. "This is a very conservative town."

But is “conservative” just a politically correct term for something else? When asked if the clubs admit African-Americans, the source told the Post: "There aren't many black people in the area."
------------------------------------------------------------

To some of you, this might be old news, but I do think it's worth mentioning.

I really hate to say this, but I think Oprah brings much of this on herself. I'm not jealous of Oprah, nor am I a hater, and I won't say that Oprah has forgotten where she came from, but I do think she tries too hard to "assimilate" into the dominant or mainstream culture.

Her television show IMO has lost it's objectivity. Both Oprah and The Oprah Show are powerful and influential, and I wish she would devote some of that power towards highlighting many more important issues, particularly issues pertinent to the plight of African-Americans, but I suppose there's no money in that. Instead, what you see is a black woman who's mission is to placate white women, and whites in general.

Many of her guests and topics range from Tom Cruise and his love life, to Kirsty Alley and her on-going weight issues, to the reunion of the cast of "Friends", to giving away new car keys to her largely white studio audience.

Occassionally, she will have some pseudo-African-Americans like Micheal Jordan and Tiger Woods, whom she calls, "her son". Other than that, she continues to play it safe.

First the incident at a fine, upscale clothing store two years ago, and now rejection by her "peers" at two white, conservative country clubs located in her own neighborhood. Having money and success as a black person doesn't guarantee you entry into white society. How many more embarrassing incidents must Oprah go through before she realizes this?

Oprah I think has this "need" to be accepted. That's unfortunate.

I agree that she tries too hard to fit in with the main stream. When are people gonna get it??? No matter how much money we have, there are some who will never accept us. It's unfortunate, but true.

I agree she does play it safe.

I think she plays it safe for a good reason.

Oprah gives millions on top of millions to black colleges and plenty of black causes. However she doesn't glorify them.......why? Because truth be told if YT knew all that she does economically for the African and African-American communities, they wouldn't support her like they do now. And without YT's support she wouldn't be the business mogul she is today, hence she couldn't give millions on top of millions to the cause. Sometimes you gotta appear to kiss @ss to, actually kick @ss......JMHO

 Soooo true. I can respect Oprah's undercoverness. She may seem like she's kissing YT's azz but she does a lot for our community. But by now, she should have turned on them with all the money she's worth now??? Do you think that black celebrities, after making a certain amount of money, should stop kissing YT's azz?

Oprah does do alot for black people, and she has sent many black people to colleges. Oprah ahs done well, and has a grown woman I definatly think she knows where she stands and what she is doing for the black community. True say, I do hate it when she gives all that stuff away to her entire audience of WHITE PEOPLE, including cars, home appliances, when there are black mother in the ghetto working and struggling to get there kids here and there, whilst trying to maintain broken homes, yet she gives it to rich white american women. I ain't bringing oprah down ar anything cause she has done ALOT for blacks and is proud of who she is. If anyone is begging white it's BEYONCE

Many will be surprised to find that Oprah doesn't pay for any of that stuff. The companies who make the products supply that stuff, it's a huge "free" endorsement and for those companies. Truth be told, I am not sure many black folks send for tickets are request to be a part of her studio audience...

I don't know what is what in this situation. I am just happy that there is a figure like Oprah that if she is denied anything it is a big deal. If I was denied sometyhing no one would give a damn!!!! Of course I wish it was never an issue to be denied anything if you are on a certain level to receive what you are requesting.

If she wants to be pushy let her be pushy. No one has to be perfect especially when you have as much money as she does. (They do try to catch her out there like with the meat packers.) I am glad that a black woman can be pushy like that! Go ahead Oprah be pushy! I am cool with it just don't push my ass out of my house.

She may cater to a seemingly white audience but one thing Oprah has not forgotten is that she is black woman. No one can say that. Go ahead I dare you!

Across all color and economic lines there is only one Oprah. She does not have to play the game- she is the game and can make her own rules: She could build her own country club or similar thing. Does Dollywood still exist? OprahLand! I am selling tickets to opening day.

With Oprah's money and reputation and longevity AND smarts, she doesn't HAVE to kiss YT's azz anymore, so why she still does it is beyond me. I don't feel sorry for her cuz who wants to get in some uppity azz white club anyway?

Just like my [Censored] PAC, keepin it real
