ASSATA SHAKUR on YOUNGBLOODS

They think they killed you
But I saw you yesterday,
standing with your hands in your pocket
waiting for the real deal to go down.
I saw you smiling your "[Censored] it" smile,
blood in your eyes,
your heart pumping freedom
Youngblood!

They think they killed you.
But I saw you yesterday
in the playground.
Black skin, sweaty, shiny
hurling your ball bomb into the hoop
right on target.
Won't be no game next time
cause you ain't hardly playing.

They think they killed you.
But I saw you yesterday
with your back against the wall,
muscles bulging against the chains,
eyes absorbing truth.
Lips speaking it.
Heart learning how to love.
Head learning who to hate.
Blood ready to flow
towards freedom.
Youngblood!

Youngbloods ain't got no blood to waste
in no syringes, on no barroom floors,
in no strange lands
delaying other Youngbloods' freedom.
We don't need no tired blood.
No anemic blood. No blood clots
in our new body.

They think they killed you.
But i saw you yesterday.
All them youngbloods
musta gave you a transfusion.
All that strong blood.
All that rich blood
flowing through your veins
toward tomorrow.

I'm a fan of James Cone. I'm reading some of his text for a class. I think you'd enjoy reading his book "Black Religion and Black Power"

Great quotations by the way!

Not familiar with James Cone...

with due respect, religion education beneath all other social institutions are tools of a political order, here and everywhere else. Our earlier religious leaders, Nat Turner Rev. Allen, etc still manifest having knowledge of our Afrikan cultures, it seems, in spite of having been relatively enslaved during the AnteBellum days.... today is different.... most if not all incorporated religious entities are burdened with "Faith Based Initiatives" of this administration and other slow down strategies b4 this administrations direct support. Its cool tho in my opinion, for it finally shatters the myth that this is a nation where separation of church and state is the rule. B.S.

thank you for your concern and stay tuned for Aluta continua (the struggle continues)

I admonish you to check him out, I think you have the wrong idea of what he covers in his text.

An exerpt:

"Consequently, black people must say No to all do-gooders who insist that they need more time. If such persons really knew oppression-knew it existentially in their guts- they would join black people in their fight for freedom and dignity.

It is interesting that most people understand why Jews can hate Germans. Why can they not understand why black people, who have been deliberately and systemactically dehumanized or murdered by the structure of society, hate white people? The general failure of Americans to make this connection suggests that the primary difficulty is their inability to see black men as men."

JOHN HENRIK CLARKE: SAYINGS

"Freedom is not handed down from one generation to another. Each generation must assume the responsibility of securing their manhood, their womanhood, and their definition of their being on earth. Until we accept the full responsibility of our freedom, until we house ourselves, feed ourselves, and clothe ourselves, we will not be free. That, in the final analysis, is nationhood."

FAMOUS QUOTATIONS OF DR. JOHN HENRIK CLARKE,

from Dr. John Henrik Clarke: HIS LIFE, HIS WORDS, HIS WORKS, edited by Ann Swanston

DO U? WHY? Prof. Amos N. Wilson Asks

"This is what WE really have to be about – the process of building a nation. If you’re not thinking in terms of nationhood, then i must say, frankly, you’re not thinking seriously of being liberated. Trying to integrate and merge with Our enemies is not going to solve Our problems.

And it’s not going to happen. As a matter of fact, it is a fantasy that has kept US from taking care of business for far too long; the idea that WE’re going to one day be one with
these people, that WE’re going to merge into “invisibility” with these white folks.

Even if that were possible WE should question Our motives for wanting to do so. Why would WE want to merge with the world’s greatest criminals and thieves, with the people who have the worst values the world has ever
known?"

"Self-acceptance can only be achieved through the self. We must not wait for our enemies to approve of us and to so-call accept us as a way of accepting ourselves. Because, ladies and gentlemen, our enemies, their very lives and their very way of life depend upon our non-self-acceptance. If the foundation of their very culture and the foundtion of their economic, political and social system is one that is founded upon the subordination of black people, then you must recognize that they are not going to give that up. For it would be like giving up their very lives and their very existence itself. Therefore, for us to wait around in the vain hope that through their acceptance we will come to accept ourselves, is to wait for nothing, because we will gain nothing as a result of this kind of illusion."

"Clearly, many of our problems lie in our slave mentality. I am not blaming the victims for the origin of their problems, but the victims must bear the burden of failure to resolve their problems.

Who else can be held responsible for our survival but us?

It is the intention of this government and of white people in general to destroy us. It is their intention to destroy our life-support systems. Without life-support systems, life cannot survive. But is it an issue of mere survival?

We as a people want more than just to exist on a physical level, like animals. There must be a higher level of existence. What is the ultimate meaning and purpose of life? As slaves, we survived.

Now we must survive with a purpose, a vision, a national direction. This purpose for which we live must be a sovereign nation with borders and land and an army to protect and secure it.

But these things cannot occur without a change in our mentality."

We must understand that, until the People Of African Origin, everywhere on the face of this Earth realize their true goal, namely, LIBERATION THROUGH UNITY.

Then, will the European and European American rulers be forced to accept, rather than tolerate, People of African origin as having a natural-born inheritance on this earth, just as any other people of dignity and respect and without any special qualification whatsoever.
